Ireland Joins the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC)
Ireland has officially joined the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), reinforcing its commitment to fairness, social justice, and gender equality in the workplace. This move places Ireland among a growing number of nations dedicated to closing the wage gap and ensuring that women and men receive fair remuneration for equal work.
The Equal Pay International Coalition is a global initiative spearheaded by the International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Women, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Its mission is to accelerate progress toward pay equity by fostering cooperation among governments, employers, workers’ organizations, and civil society. By becoming a member, Ireland signals its determination to strengthen both domestic and international efforts in tackling persistent pay disparities.
Ireland has made significant progress in recent years on gender equality. Legislation such as the Gender Pay Gap Information Act has required large employers to disclose pay data, creating greater transparency and accountability. However, challenges remain, particularly in industries where women are underrepresented in senior roles or where traditional stereotypes influence occupational segregation. Joining EPIC allows Ireland to share best practices, learn from other countries, and continue advancing effective policies to ensure a more balanced workforce.
Ministerial representatives welcomed the announcement, noting that Ireland’s membership will help consolidate national strategies with global momentum. The government has also pledged to continue supporting initiatives that empower women, promote diversity in leadership, and encourage inclusive workplace cultures.
As part of EPIC, Ireland will participate in knowledge-sharing forums, research collaborations, and policy dialogues aimed at eliminating wage inequalities. These efforts underline the broader national vision of a society where talent and contribution are valued equally, regardless of gender.
By joining this coalition, Ireland strengthens its role as an advocate for fairness and equity worldwide. It reflects the growing international consensus that Equal Pay is not just a moral obligation but also an economic necessity, fostering stronger economies and more cohesive communities.
